This painting depicts a woman who is coming forward out of the darkness of abuse. She is no longer going to be silent and let her abuse continue to intimidate and abuse her. You see him in the background and he turns away from the light... the truth. She has been shrouded in shame but that shame is falling from her as she steps out into the light. Silence has kept her hidden. Speaking the truth will help to set her free.
About Deborah Nell
I have been painting on and off since the age of eight. I'm a native of Southern California and moved to Pennsylvania in 1998. I obtained my B.A. in Design from UCLA in 1981. I'm an intuitive painter and I work primarily on Yupo paper (a slick, synthetic paper which lends itself to much experimentaion) with acrylic inks, watercolor and acrylic paint. I see my painting process as an act of worshipping God. I don't know what I'm going to paint when I start, but I trust God to guide me.
